George A. Yochum of Clarkston passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Prestige Care and Rehabilitation in Clarkston. He was 91.

He was born to Edward and Auline Davis Yochum on May 29, 1927, at the ranch on the Peola Highway. He attended the country school near Peola through the eighth grade. He then farmed with his older brothers, Herman “Bud” V. Yochum and Ronald F. Yochum, until he was drafted in the U.S. Army in October 1952. After basic training his entire time in the service was spent in Korea.

In June of 1952, he became engaged to Kathleen Jones. He started building their first home in December of 1954. They were married Jan. 8, 1955, and moved into the home Feb. 28. They lived there for five years before they moved to another home he built next door. The last move was in 2005, to a manufactured home.

He worked for 10 years at Potlatch Forest Inc. in the saw mill. And in 1965, he went to work as a car loader at Guy Bennett Lumber Co., until retiring in 1989.

George had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, bowling, golf, square and round dancing, and RVing with Blue Mountain Good Sams. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and three brothers, H.V. “Bud,” Ronald and Roger Yochum. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, son Daryl and daughter Diane Bennett (Tracy), plus three grandchildren — Lexi, Lainey and Landon — and a sister, Sharon Dixon of Uniontown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
