Opal was born April 2, 1913, at Greenfield, Mo., to Don and Mabel Taylor. She was the youngest of three girls. When she was 9, the family moved to Colorado to farm. The family stayed in Colorado until Opal turned 27.
They moved to Portland, Ore., to work at the military shipyard. Opal worked as a welder. She met the love of her life, John Dickinson. They were married and had a daughter, Opal Leona, before moving to Lewiston. John and Opal worked in the Lewiston Orchards and raised their daughter. They moved to Kendrick to be close to their daughter and her family.
Opal enjoyed living in Kendrick. The community was always welcoming, and she had many friends and family there. She moved back to Lewiston and lived there for her last few years. She is survived by her son-in-law, Fred Lohman, and her four grandchildren, Jamie Alderman, Steve Lohman, Patty McKay and Kelly Lohman. She loved her eight great-grandchildren (Jessica, Kaci, Brandi, Hayden, Rayla, Dylan, Catriona and Dierdre) and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Kendrick Volunteer Fire Department.
