Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Miller

Elizabeth "Betty" Haworth Miller, longtime resident of Clarkston, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston.

Betty was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Moscow, Idaho, the third of three daughters born to P. E. "Earl" and Myrtle Hegstad Smith. Unfortunately, her sister, Eileen, died in infancy. Betty and her remaining sister, Evelyn, were always very close. The family moved to Clarkston when Betty was a child.

Betty grew up in Clarkston and attended Clarkston High School, graduating in 1939. She married Leo Haworth in 1940 and they had a son, Gregory Haworth. Although Leo and Betty were divorced, the Haworth family remained a large part of her life.

She worked at Potlatch Forests Inc. and then later for a travel agency located in the Lewis Clark Hotel. She married Delbert "Deb" Miller in 1960.

Betty started her own travel business in Lewiston and was best known as the "Betty" of Betty's World of Travel. She enjoyed helping others plan their travel adventures. She organized tours, and she was able to see much of the world herself.

Betty loved life and always wanted to partake in any fun. She would leave the office after long hours on a Friday night, drive in the dark out to the North Fork of the Clearwater River to meet up with her family for a short weekend of camping and fishing. Then she'd pack back up, drive back home, and get ready to start the crazy work schedule again. Betty loved to dance. She and Deb square danced earlier in their lives and later spent many evenings enjoying dinner and dancing at the Elks Club in Lewiston.

Betty sold her business when she retired at 65. She remained active in her retirement, traveling with her husband in their motor home and spending the winters in a second home in Casa Grande, Ariz. She loved her family and hosted many events in her home on her lovely patio, where everyone would gather to enjoy wonderful food, great camaraderie and laughter. And of course we all played lots and lots of card games on that patio.

Betty was one of a kind and dearly loved by her family and friends. She will be missed, and our memories of her will be fondly held close to our hearts.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Deb Miller; her dear sister, Evelyn Nelson, from Houston, Texas; and her son, Greg Haworth.

Betty's final resting place will be next to her husband, Deb, in the Moscow Cemetery. The family will have a private graveside service at a date to be determined.
