James Melton Cruthirds (1937-2018), 81, a much loved Christian husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

James was born on July 16, 1937, in Brookhaven, Miss., to Melton and Willa Cruthirds. His childhood home was in Sarepta, La. He attended high school there and in Wiggins, Miss. He also attended Perkinston College in Wiggins.

He was employed with International Paper Co. in Springhill, La., as an operator in the power generation plant. In 1980, he accepted a position with Potlatch Corp. (now Clearwater Paper Co.), where he held both hourly and supervisory positions.

James married Dollie G. Wright on June 2, 1959, and they have two children: Cindy Corinne Allen and Douglas Lee Cruthirds.

James received Jesus at an early age and faithfully attended the Baptist Church. At the time of his departure, he was a member of Tammany View Baptist Church in Lewiston, where he served as a deacon and helped with three major building projects there.

Survivors are his wife, Dollie, at their home in Waha Glen; their daughter, Cindy Allen of Sarepta; son Douglas and his wife, Cindy, of Lewiston; grandson Doug and his wife, Katy of Pocatello; granddaughter Callie of Redding, Calif.; and great-granddaughters Carter Ann and Quinn Marie of Pocatello. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Cruthirds Pearson, of Bossier City, La.; and Robert N. Cruthirds and his wife, Janice, of Columbus, Miss.; two nephews; and two nieces.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Tammany View Baptist Church, 3732 20th St., in the Lewiston Orchards. James’ family wishes to express our profound gratitude to our church family, friends, and the medical staff at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and Cancer Center for their professional services and compassionate care.
